Short story writer and novelist in Malayalam, the language of Kerala in South India, E. Harikumar is a well known writer. Kerala is the land of coconut palm groves and sunshine. The land of lakes and mountains. Of sea and sand. The trees are so green and lush, it is called the God's Own Land. Born on 13th July 1943 in Ponani a coastal town between Calicut and
Kochi.
Parents: Edasseri Govindan Nair, well-known poet and playwright and E. Janaki
Amma.

Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the year 1988 for collection of short stories titled
Dinosarinte Kutty
(The Dinosaur's
Baby),
Padmarajan Award in 1997 for the best story of the year
'Pachhapayyine Pidikkan' To Catch A Grasshopper)
Nalappadan Award for the book Sookshichu Vacha Mayilpeeli
(Peacock Feather Treasured) in 1998 and
Kathapeedam Award
for the book 'Anithayude Veedu' (Anitha's House) in
2006.
E. Harikumar was a member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, the foremost literary institution
under the Cultural Department of Government of Kerala,
for two terms from 1998 till 2004.

Madhavi,
the woman who loved rains, nature, the
antiquity of her tharwad where she was born
and spent her life before marriage, only to
be destined to live far away in a
concrete jungle. Once in a while she goes
back to the village, back to the nature, to
her tharwad only to rejuvenate her soul.
It's her pilgrimage. The popular short story
of E. Harikumar, "Sreeparvathiyude
Paadam" (The Foot of Sreeparvathi) has
been made into a telefilm by Baiju Chandran
for the Doordarsan. |
